El Monte Soccer for Success

Soccer for Success is the free soccer-based after-school program developed by the U.S. Soccer Foundation that uses soccer as a tool to address children’s health issues and juvenile delinquency, while promoting healthy lifestyles in urban underserved communities.  El Monte Soccer for Success has partnered with the U.S. Soccer Foundation since 2012 and has served over 5,000 participants in 4 years.  We currently offer Soccer for Success at six local schools within the city of El Monte, 4 schools from the El Monte City School District and 2 schools from the Mt. View School District.

Our current partner school sites:

This past year, a study was conducted for Soccer for Success, and the results showed that children enrolled in the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s Soccer for Success program experience statistically significantly greater health improvements – in comparison to children enrolled in other non-athletic, non-nutrition-based afterschool programming with similar schedules to Soccer for Success!

For El Monte Soccer for Success program, we see that each season an average of 71% of participants improve or maintain their BMI Percentile, while 77% improve or maintain their PACER test score.  For children that enter the program as overweight or obese, these percentages increase – 85% of overweight/obese participants improve or maintain their BMI Percentile, while 83% improved or maintain their PACER level.
